Easy Ink Blending Ideas for Handmade Cards

Ink Blending with Stencils

Do you love using stencils on your handmade cards, but looking for a cleaner way to blend? Check out todays fun floral card using our new Blending Brushes and our beautiful Color Fuse Inks.

Our designer, Carol, tried out the fabulous new Large Blending Brushes and the Small Detail Brushes with two different stencils for today’s card making project. She agreed that these brushes make ink blending almost effortless and are very good! Yay! We love to hear that and are so excited to offer some easy ink blending ideas for your handmade cards.

Today’s project was a very easy card to make; one that can be used for many occasions. Follow along as Carol shows us the steps and progress photos for recreating this fun floral masterpiece.

Instructions for card:
  • Place the Tree Branch stencil onto a 4-¼” x 5-½” piece of white cardstock.
  • Use a Large Blending Brush to blend on Mist ink (Color Fuse set #10).
  • Die cut the stenciled panel with the largest Nested Rectangle Small Stitch Die.
  • Next I added some light green and white metallic watercolor splatters for a bit of simmer. If you do not have metallic watercolors, you can do this with any of your ink pads (Color Fuse inks are great). Just smoosh the ink pad onto your craft mat, dilute with some water, and then use a paintbrush to add the splatters to the panel.
  • Use glue to adhere the die cut piece on top of black cardstock trimmed to 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″.
  • Then glue the layers to an A2 card base.
  • Here’s photo to show how pretty it looks with the shimmery splatters.
  • Next stamp the flowers and leaves from the Always Peony stamp set with black ink.
  • Then use the Always Peony stencils to add Rose, Bubblegum, and Fuchsia inks (Color Fuse #5) to the flowers. The Small Detail Brushes and Large Blending Brushes make this so easy!
  • Then color the leaves with the Always Peony stencil with Basil and Clover inks (#10).
  • Adhere the largest flower to the card base with glue.
  • Then add a piece of foam tape to the center back of the other two flowers to adhere to the card.
  • TIP: Add just one piece of foam tape or dot of glue to the flowers so it will be easy to tuck the leaves behind the flowers.
  • Arrange the leaves as you like, then glue them to the card.
  • Stamp the sentiment from the Always Peony stamp set in black ink.
  • Trim it into a strip and adhere to the card with foam tape.

We don’t know about you, but we are in awe of how simple and beautiful this card is. A little bit of blending goes a long way with stenciling projects. This card looks like it took forever to create, and with the use of both the large and small detailed blending brushes, it was a much quicker project than expected. We are also in love with the bright pink hues against the vibrant greens.

Another Beautiful card completed, waiting to inspire your next creation. Happy Crafting!
