How to Combine Stencils for a New Card Design

How to make this card:

  • Cut a panel 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 and lay the smaller Heart stencil from the 4301 Bokeh Hearts Stencil set over the top and secure it in place with Pixie Spray or Tape or whatever your favorite way to keep your stencils from moving.
  • Blend Blush Color Fuse Ink from set #5 over the top of it. I like to have the color lighter in some areas and darker than others rather than trying to get a solid color.
  • Remove the heart stencil and secure the 4214 Confetti Stencil over the heart stenciled panel and blend Arctic Color Fuse Ink from Set #7 over it.
  • Remove the Confetti Stencil and rotate it and secure it back down over the top and blend Lavender Color Fuse Ink from Set #6 over it.
  • Choose colors that will blend well or get the color variances you want went blended over the top of one another.
  • I die cut the panel using the 5602D Nested Rectangle with Square Holes Die.
  • Next I placed a panel of white cardstock into my stamp positioner and pulled out the 35042 Watercolor Birthday Cake stamp set and started with the outline stamp. I decided to mask off the candle bases when I stamped with black Memento Ink and then inked up the candle bases with purple and stamped again. I didn’t worry about masking when I did the purple since it wouldn’t change the color of the black ink.. I just stamped over it!
  • Then I positioned each “watercolor” stamp over the area it coordinated with, let the stamp positioner cover pick it up making sure my cardstock stayed put (I use a sticky mat along with the magnets), and inked up each one with the same colors I used for the background.
  • For the candle flames I used Custard Color Fuse Ink from Set #1 and Apricot from Set #2.
  • I fussy cut the cake out but made sure to leave the fun splatters made from the stamp set.
  • Next I stamped the 35051 Happy Birthday stamp set large sentiments onto white cardstock with Wow Embossing Ink, sprinkled over with the Poppin’ Pink embossing powder and heated it.
  • I’m in love with the 35051D Happy Birthday Lg/Sm Coordinating Dies because it cuts the sentiment out in detail. I die cut the sentiment.
  • Finally I popped up all of my elements onto the card, matted it with blue cardstock and added a few sequins.

Such a fun way to mix up stencil designs! This birthday card is really rocking, and we can’t wait to see how you try to combine stencils on your next projects. Pin this card for later and be sure to follow us on all our socials for more inspiration.

Question: If you could combine any two stencils, what do you think you would choose?
