Pillar-Fold Card Idea for Dad

Looking for a card to WOW Dad as much as he WOW’s you? Today we have a fun new “fold” for you to try that will add dimension and interest to your next handmade project.

Today Kendra has another fun fold to share with you; a Pillar Fold Card! Masculine cards can be a little intimidating, so sometimes creating a fun fold helps make it interesting. We really love how she arranged the tools and we can’t wait for you to create a card of your own. Follow along with Kendras tutorial below!

How to make this card:

  • Kendra started her card by creating her card base. Cut a white piece of cardstock 11″ x 4 1/4″. Score on the left end at 3/4″, 1 1/2″, 2 1/4″ and 3″. Flip the card base and do the same on the other end. You should have 4 score lines on each end 3/4″ apart. Use bone folder to reinforce score lines.
  • Fold at the center score line and add glue to inside pieces. Fold in and reinforce end and center folds. Open base completely and reinforce score outer and inner score lines. Your base should look like the image below. Time to decorate!
  • Die cut 5708-01D Wood Plank Panel Die from kraft cardstock. Adhere to a piece of kraft cardstock to give some strength. Cut from bottom up 4 1/8″. (Piece will be roughly 4×4 1/8″) Set aside top extra piece. Cut 5/8″ stripes from bottom half. Excess little piece can be thrown away. Ink the edges of all pieces with Cinnamon Color Fuse Ink.
  • Adhere 5/8″ stripes to card base pillars.
  • Cut a piece of dark blue cardstock 3 1/8 x 4″ and a piece of light blue cardstock 3 x 3 7/8″. Ahere together. Adhere top plank piece about 1/2″ from left side. Stamp ‘Happy Birthday’ sentiment from 3419 Dad Phrases near bottom right with black ink. Adhere piece to middle of card base.
  • Die cut largest ticket style die from 5704D Nested Tag Dies from white cardstock. Stamp ‘Dad, you’re definitely the best!” in black ink. Adhere to center of card base with pop dots.
  • Die cut 5409-01D Tool Box Die and 5409-02D Tools Die and assemble. Kendra added a piece of kraft cardstock behind the tool box. Add to card.
  • Finish card by adding three blue pearls.

This would also make a great ‘Father’s Day’ card. But I decided to create a birthday card.

This project is such a delight. What a fun dimensional card that is sure to wow the dad in your life. What’s even more fun, is you can use this Pillar Fold to create tons of other interesting projects! What kind of card can you imaging using this on?
