How to Create Ink Blended Background for Cards

Ink Blended Background

Give us all the Ombre’ Ink Blending ideas! This Teal creation is perfect for a nautical Father’s Day card, and really makes a statement!

Today’s card is from our talented designer, Carol. She shows off her ink blending skills by creating this gorgeous ombre’ ink blended background that is giving under-the-sea vibes. This is a super easy, ink blended card with embellishments hand cut from patterned paper, and Carol is going to walk us through the steps to recreate this project!

How to make this card:

  • Die cut a piece of teal cardstock with the ‘5714D Under The Sea Cover Plate Die‘.
  • Beginning with cardstock to coordinate with your ink colors will make these next steps easier!

  • Using Blending Brushes blend the inks from ‘Color Fuse #9‘ in an ombre pattern (darkest to lightest colors) onto the die cut piece.
  • Repeat the inking as needed to blend the shades together.
  • Don’t worry if the inks don’t look totally smooth. Set the panel aside and as the inks dry and settle into the paper fibers, you will be amazed at how it smooths out!
  • This is what my panel looked like right after I finished blending. Compare this to the photos of the finished card and you can definitely see the difference.

  • Next choose two sentiments from the ‘Father’s Day stamp set‘ onto white cardstock and stamp in an ombre pattern with the Color Fuse #9 inks.
  • To achieve the ombre inking of the sentiment as shown in the photos, it is best to use a stamping tool such as the MISTI. (If you do not having a stamping tool, stamp the sentiment in Cedar ink. This will look just as pretty since it will coordinate perfectly with your ink blended panel!)
  • After placing the sentiment onto the stamping tool’s door, tap the Cedar ink cube along the top of the Father’s Day sentiment. I used a Blending Brush to lightly tap out the sharp line of the ink on the stamp.
  • Now stamp that and then use the Dreamer ink cube and tap that color just below the area of where the Cedar ink was.
  • Here are a couple photos to illustrate this technique.
  • Finish stamping the sentiment with Whisper ink and then Beachside ink.
  • As needed, repeat the steps until you have total coverage of both sentiments.
  • Center the fifth largest ‘5027 Nested Square Scallop Die’ over the sentiment and cut it out.
  • Next we are going to choose a piece of patterned paper from the ‘Life Upon The Sea paper pad‘.
  • Choose a few images that will coordinate with your card and use scissors to cut them out.

Card assembly:

  • Adhere the ombre inked panel to an A2 card base.
  • Add foam tape to the back of the die cut sentiment to adhere to your card.
  • Use foam tape or glue to adhere the hand cut images to your card.

We LOVE the way this card turned out! The background die cut out of that Ink Blended Background is just stunning! This card is an amazing masculine Fathers Day Card, but you can use this design for any occasion by changing up the sentiments.
