Make Mom Laugh with this Funny Floral Card

Funny Mothers Day Card

Celebrating Mother’s Day with a handcrafted card full of flowers and a butterfly is a beautiful way to show your love and appreciation for the special mother figure in your life. Adding a funny sentiment shows her she raised you right-lol.

Making a card for the mother or mother figure in your life is always one we put a lot of thought into. Todays project is great because it is elegant and loving, but also makes us laugh because of the great sentiment! There are more ways than one to put a smile on your mama’s face, why not try laughter this round. Follow along as we show you how to make mom laugh with this funny floral card.

When our designer, Dominique, sat down to craft, she wasn’t really sure what she was going to create. She pulled out a few products and sat them on her desk. She then started to put her “sketch” together. She has been wanting to share some inspiration using the ‘5432D – Mini Slimline Diagonal Cover Die‘ for a while now. However, every time she would make something, it just didn’t quite turn out how she had it pictured in her mind. So this time, she wanted to “sketch” her idea so that she could better visualize the idea. And you know what? She REALLY liked what she sketched out!

Mothers Day Card
  • Dominique began her card using ‘5432D – Mini Slimline Diagonal Cover Die‘. Since she didn’t have have a color scheme in mind when she started the card, she used white card stock for all her cuts. She wanted a bit more interest on the edges, so she used the largest die from the ‘5426D – Mini Slimline Deckle Die‘ to cut out the decorative edge. Luckily, the ‘5432D – Mini Slimline Diagonal Cover Die‘ is slightly larger than the ‘5426D – Mini Slimline Deckle Die‘, so she carefully placed her cut out overtop of the mini deckle die. She held it in place with some low tack tape, then ran it through her die cut machine.
  • Next, Dominique cut out all of my additional pieces. The florals are from the ‘5709-02D Spring Flowers Die‘ set. The leafy pieces are from the ‘5404D Branches and Leaves Die‘ set. The butterfly is from the ‘5102D 2 part Butterfly #3 Die‘ set, and the smaller rectangle is from the ‘5426D – Mini Slimline Deckle Die‘ set.
  • Using her blending brushes, Dominique colored each piece that she planned to use on the card. The diagonal base was colored in with Apricot from ‘Color Fuse Set #2‘. The smaller flowers were colored with Custard and the larger flowers were colored with Autumn, both from ‘Color Fuse Set #1‘. The leafy pieces were colored using Fern from ‘Color Fuse Set #11‘. The butterfly and the center of the flowers were colored using Serene, from ‘Color Fuse Set #8‘. Lastly, the smaller tabbed rectangle was lightly colored using Mocha from ‘Color Fuse Set #3‘.
  • Using her Misti, Dominique stamped her sentiment using Serene, from ‘Color Fuse Set #8‘. Both sentiments came from the ‘3417 – Mother’s Day Stamp Set‘.
  • Once all the pieces were colored, Dominique began to assemble the card. She glued the smaller flowers on top of the bigger flowers. To create more dimension, the flowers, butterfly, and the center rectangle were popped up on the card panel using foam tape.
  • She then created her card base which was 7″ x 6″, folded at 3 1/2″.
  • Lastly, she attached her card panel onto the card base using foam tape.

WOW! We are obsessed with this fun card and honestly, our favorite part was that Dominique created the entire thing out of white paper and added her color after. What a fun way to take an idea and make it even better. You aren’t committed to a pallet until you design the entire thing and get a feel for what you want. GENIUS!

The mama that receives this card is going to giggle when she get it, because it really is funny and such a true statement….”thanks for not taking back my life during my teen years” haha. How many of us pushed our mamas buttons during those teen years? I know I did!

We hope you love this project and that it put a smile on your face. As always, shop these items via the links below and let us know if you have any other questions.
