Creating a Unique Slimline “Love” Card with Nontraditional Colors

Creating a Unique "Love" Card with non traditional colors.

A Valentine’s Day card with bright and cheery nontraditional colors is sure to stand out and make a statement.

Even though Valentine’s Day may be over, these adorable Gnomes from ‘36023-I Love You Gnomes Set‘ are perfect for Anniversary cards as well! Heck, we’d be delighted to get this card on a random Tuesday! Everyone likes to know they are loved, right! Kendra and her husband are celebrating an Anniversary this month, so she thought she would grab this cute set and create him a card!! Her goal was to also use non-Valentine’s Day colors to show when colored differently it is great for Anniversary cards or even just a random ‘I Love You’ card!

Steps to create this card:

  • To begin this card, Kendra created a mini slimline card base, sized 6″ x 3″.

  • Kendra stamped the gnome image from ‘36023-I Love You Gnomes Set‘ on white cardstock and colored it with Copic Markers. She based the colors she choose by matching them to the watercolor heart piece of paper she used from the ‘2201-Heart String Paper Pad‘. After coloring the gnome image, Kendra die cut the image using ‘36023-I Love You Gnomes Die‘.

  • Next, from light blue cardstock, Kendra die cut the largest ‘5427D-Mini Slimline Tabbed Scalloped Stitched Die‘. She then die cut the second largest ‘5425D-Mini Slimline Nested w/ Stitched Die‘ from the watercolor heart pattern paper in ‘2201-Heart String Paper Pad‘. Kendra cut a piece of light pink paper slightly larger than the rectangle with stitch heart paper using her paper cutter.

  • Stamp the ‘You’ and ‘most of all’ sentiments from ‘3496-04-Someone Like You Set‘ on the bottom right side of the heart paper.
  • Adhere the watercolor heart paper to the light pink paper and then to the light blue piece. Adhere to card base.
  • Die cut the word ‘Love’ from ‘5610-01D-Love Word w/ Shadow Die‘ out of light blue cardstock three times. Next, die cut the ‘Love’ word three times out of light pink cardstock and once from black. (The black layer is not shown in the photo as Kendra decided to add that later so the word ‘Love’ would stand out more once added to her card and also match the ‘You most of all’ sentiment more.)
  • Glue all the shadow layers together and all the word layers together, with the black on top. Then adhere together. Adhere to the card base in the upper left.
  • Adhere image to card base using pop dots.
  • Die cut a tag using “5605-03D-Off Set Tags Die‘ out of the checked heart paper. Die cut another tag from light blue paper. Staple tags together at top, slightly offset. Add tiny pop dot between the two layers. Adhere to card base.
  • Adhere enamel dots to bottom left of heart paper.
