Using Gel Prints to Create Beautiful Cards

Gel Prints for cards

Who loves new card making techniques? We know we are always looking for fresh ways to use our creativity, and Gel Printing definitely checks all those boxes. Today’s cards are not only fun to look at, they are fun to make!

Today our designer Lisa is using gel prints to create beautiful cards. Lisa uses Gel Prints in many of her designs so she wanted to show us how she creates them. She is also sharing how she uses them for not just backgrounds but for die cuts also. Lisa admitted that the hardest part for the cards today was picking which two to use for her post, because she couldn’t just pick one! We agree; both cards are stunning! Check out the steps below, and peep the progress photos for these awesome projects!

  • Create 8 1/2 x 11 Gel Prints using the ‘4205 – Poppy Bloom Stencil‘. Lisa will have short video/reel for this asap.
  • Die cut panels from two of the prints using the ‘5320D – Nested Scallop W/ Half Holes Die‘.
  • Die cut flowers from the edges of the prints using the ‘5709-02D – Spring Flowers Dies‘.
  • Pick out cardstock colors to coordinate with the prints and cut a white layer for each 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″ and the coordinating colors 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″.
  • Use glue tape to adhere the two bottom panels together and then cut a piece of foam to about 3 3/4″ x 5″ to fit under the gel print panel. Lisa buys foam sheets from the kids art section for when she want to add dimension to a whole panel.
  • Next, cut a scallop frame using ‘5500-02D – Outside Scallop Frame Die‘ for the orange panel. Then cut a pretty oval frame using ‘5601-01D – Elegant Scroll Rectangle Die‘ from shimmery vellum for the pink panel.
  • Use foam tape to pop up the frame and add light adhesive to the vellum frame.
  • If you like, you can add additional color to the flowers using Color Fuse Inks and a blending brush.
  • Assemble flowers with very thin foam tape for extra dimension and adhere to the front panel with glue or foam tape.
  • Die cut the swirls from ‘5600-01D – Decorative Floral Circle Die‘ set from glitter paper and set aside.
  • Stamp sentiments from ‘3496-06 – New Friends Floral Stamp Set‘ and die cut using ‘5704D – Nested Tag Dies‘ and attach to the panel with foam tape.
  • Insert glittery swirls where they fit and add sequins.

Both of these cards are just amazing. Love the bright fall colors and the soft pastels for spring. If you loved this technique, check out this post that features another one of Lisas gel print creations: How to Make Gel Print Backgrounds Using Stencils
